TZITZIT!! (pronounced, tzeet-tzeet) It is the Hebrew word for "fringes" - so why in the world do we wear them? We aren't living in Israel, we aren't practicing the Jewish Religion, WE DON'T SPEAK HEBREW lol, and we aren't Rabbis, so why would we, normal everyday people have them on, EVERYDAY....and would you be excited to know that YOU also can be wearing them?!?!
We wear them because the Bible tells us to in the book of Numbers chapter 15: 38-41
"Speak to the people of Israel, and tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a cord of blue on the tassel of each corner.39 And it shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of YHVH, to do them, not to follow[a] after your own heart and your own eyes, which you are inclined to whore after.40 So you shall remember and do all my commandments, and be holy to your God.41 I am YHVH your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I am YHVH your God.”
You might think that this is just for "Jews" or people of the Jewish religion, or the "people of Israel" - but did you know that in the book of Exodus in the Bible, it tells us that when the people fled Egypt there was a "mixed multitude" of people who left and decided that they wanted the God, who just demolished the strongest empire known to man at the time, to be THEIR GOD also?!!? That is who ISRAEL was at the time Moses was speaking to the people, and He is speaking that to us today as well! If we recognize the God of Israel, the God of the Bible to be OUR GOD, then this is relevant to our lives as BIBLE FOLLOWING BELIEVERS!!
OK SOOO what if you just "Love and walk with JESUS as your Savior" - He wouldn't expect YOU to wear Tzitzit...WOULD HE?!?! HE WOULD!! Because HE did!! Remember when the woman with the issue of blood, desperately reached out to "touch the fringe of His garment"....
Luke 8: 43-48 "And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians,[a] she could not be healed by anyone.44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased.45 And Jesus (Yeshua in Hebrew) said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter[b] said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!”46 But Jesus (Yeshua) said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.”47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed.48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
